A MODEL FOR SOCIAL WORK PRACTICE

The Circles of Translation and Integration

Thank you for your interest in the first release of this model! I would love to hear your feedback and to talk more with fellow social workers about this concept, in addition to social work practice and professional development in general.

Here is an introduction to the model:

"The Circles of Translation and Integration is an original conceptual model for social work practice developed by Erin Mansfield, Accredited Mental Health Social Worker (AMHSW) and Practice Owner of Interbloom, in 2026.

The Circles of Translation and Integration map the origins, formation and evolution of a social worker’s practice framework and therapeutic orientation across five interconnected circles. Importantly, it identifies two critical translation and integration points that attempt to remedy the breakdowns between theory and practice - a well documented and common experience in the social work profession (Healy, 2014). The Circles of Translation and Integration has a dynamic quality and several functions including serving as a model for practice framework development, defining therapeutic orientation, and reflective practice in social work. The Circles of Translation and Integration asks social workers to engage with it honestly for the sake of professional integrity and safe, ethical and effective practice.

While the model was developed with clinical and therapeutic practice in mind, its structure has broad applicability and can accommodate the full scope of social work practice including non-client facing contexts such as supervision, management and leadership, community development, and policy work."
