YOUR APPOINTMENT
Come as you are! I look forward to meeting you at your first session.
Our first session is an opportunity to officially meet and talk about what has brought you to therapy and what you hope to work on together. It's okay if you don't know what to say or where to start - I'll be able to ask questions and guide you through this. You get to decide what you share and how much you want to share with me. You are also more than welcome to put forward any questions you may have for me.
This will depend on your goals and where things are at in your life right now. Time, money and energy are also factors to consider for most people. We can discuss, explore and map this in our first few sessions.
Yes, upon request and subject to availability. This can range from 90 minute sessions through to 3 hour intensives. Longer sessions can be particularly effective for those who have limited time and flexibility to attend therapy, for deeper uninterrupted EMDR processing, ERP exposure therapy, and more. If you would like to talk some more about this, please get in touch via email or our enquiry form on the 'Contact' page.
Google Meet is used for online sessions. You will be emailed a unique link within 24 hours of your appointment starting. Please check that you have a stable internet connection and a comfortable private space available to you.
Fees will vary depending on the referral pathway. You will find this information by clicking the drop-down under each referral pathway listed at the top of the 'Services' page.
This is really important to acknowledge and consider. You are free to end therapy whenever you choose and for whatever reason you choose, including if you don't feel like we're a good fit. The connection and partnership with your therapist is an important part of therapy. Ideally, it would be great to talk this through as sometimes doubt or niggles can come up for reasons that are understandable and workable. I hope that a conversation around this will provide some clarity and is supportive of you making an informed decision about your next steps. And of course, you are also within your right to end therapy without further explanation. I appreciate that this can be an uncomfortable fork in the road.
You will receive a reminder SMS 48 hours before your scheduled session. We kindly ask that you provide more than 24 hours' notice if you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment. If less than 24 hours' notice is given, the full session fee still applies. Please note that Medicare rebates cannot be claimed under these circumstances - only where therapy has been provided. We understand that emergencies and exceptional circumstances do happen. If you are unable to attend for these reasons, please contact us as soon as you're able as we may be able to waive the fee.
Most private health insurers recognise AMHSWs as providers of counselling, therapy and psychological services. Please check with your provider to see if you can claim our sessions.
I have not yet decided upon an AI scribe tool (note taker) for sessions however, once I start using one, I will provide all relevant and necessary information. The use of an AI scribe tool in sessions requires your informed consent and I will not proceed in using it should you decline. I understand that sometimes clients want to use their own AI scribe tool for online sessions. This is fine however, I ask that you let me know when and how you are recording your session.
Your therapy sessions are a confidential space for you to express and explore yourself and your experiences. This will not be shared with others unless you have given clear and informed consent to do so. Some information is required to be shared in reports to your funding body however, this is strictly on a need-to-know basis and done in a way that maintains confidentiality. There are some limitations that should be noted upfront but these will also be discussed if they arise in our work together:
Mandatory reporting of child safety and wellbeing concerns
Where there is imminent risk of harm to self and/or others that cannot be managed safely in therapy
Where a file is subpoenaed for a legal matter (note: this does not automatically mean a file needs to be released in full and other protections may apply, eg. [Sexual Assault Communications Privilege])
This was not a decision that I made lightly. Self-disclosure by professionals is a hot topic and rightly so. Here are the reasons I chose to share this about myself:
It eventually shows up in my knowledge, thought processes, energy, quirks, etc. Sometimes people will observe this and ask, and sometimes it becomes relevant for me to name it at some point
For those who have been through relational trauma, complex trauma, served in Defence, experienced systemic harms and injustices, or are hyperaware around others, it can be helpful to have this piece of information about me. For example, some people appreciate knowing that my inclination for movement is ADHD-related
I'm mindful that this can be helpful for fellow ADHDers (and even partners of ADHDers) to know when choosing a therapist, or when choosing a clinical supervisor for those who are seeking supervision. Come as you are! I'll follow the half-baked messy thoughts and feelings as they unfold, and help you slow down the pace too. And yes, floor-sits are a thing and I'll happily join you down there
IYKYK
The Central Coast (and beyond!) can be a small place. In situations where we may cross paths outside of therapy, I'll usually give a smile in passing or reciprocate a hello. I won't usually stop to chat because it can make some people feel uncomfortable, it may risk your confidentiality, and I'm mindful that we're all running on our own time. Please note that if I'm not wearing my glasses I may not be able to see you from a certain distance, so if it appears that I haven't acknowledged you, rest assured that it's probably because I can't see properly!
I acknowledge the Traditional Custodians of Country across Australia and their continuing connection to land, water, sky and community. I pay my deepest respect to Elders past and present, and extend that respect to all First Nations peoples. Always was, always will be Aboriginal land.
Diversity is valued and celebrated here. Everyone will be treated with dignity and respect. You and your lived experience are important.
